Quit Smoking…Which habit Is More Fun?

Hi Soon to be non smoker

Which habit is more fun? Smoking or being healthy? This may seem like a no brainer but it’s not so straightforward to answer.

Smoking is obvious, every smoker knows their own secret reasons for enjoying cigarettes. But health is a very vague and subjective idea, so it is hard to measure. Yet health is the number one reason my clients give me for quitting.

To understand what they mean requires a specific line of questioning. E.g. what does good health look like to you, feel like to you? If you had good health what wouldn’t you experience right now.

If you were healthy what would that allow you to do, that you can’t do right now.

Good health to a 25 year old person who has cared for themselves is very different than good health as described by a 50 year old who has smoked for 30 years and recently quit.

So now getting clear on your own definition of health, I would ask you again, which habit is the most fun?

I wonder if that question now seems a little silly. Even associating the killer effects of smoking with fun doesn’t seem to make any sense. But of course if you are still smoking and enjoying it on some level, then you are doing the very human behaviour of compartmentalizing.

This gift allows us to do one thing and avoid the unpleasant aspects. Humans do this in many areas of life.

It’s like this, you smoke and enjoy it, and access one part of your brain to enjoy these feelings and all the memories of your favourite smoking times.

Yet locked away behind a locked door in another room in your brain are all the health warnings, all your fears for your health, and the fears of your friends and families. This can be safely ignored for years.

But hopefully at some time the door will open a little and the fears and doubts will leak out into your smoking fun. Bit by bit this fun is eroded, and it is usually at this time that the thought of quitting takes hold.

It is important that you don’t ignore these signals. It is the perfect time to seek out a hypnotherapist and commit yourself to a time frame for having your quit smoking hypnosis session.

Then after your sessions, begin to have fun with your new found health and well-being.
