Quitting Smoking For Office Workers

Hi Soon To Be Non-Smoker

Quitting smoking for office workers has some important differences than for a driver or trades person who has more flexibility as to when they smoke.

I live near South bank in Brisbane and there is a huge office and residential tower where I often walk. It is common to see groups of smokers clustered around a rubbish bin at the morning or lunch break.

The differences are important. Firstly they have to leave their office space and ride an elevator down as many as 23 floors. Then they have to stand in the sun or rain or wind to smoke.

On occasion I have watched some smokers sucking hard and long on their cigarettes because they don’t have much time before they have to return to work.

These time constraints mean a few things.

  1. There is little time to enjoy their smoke, so it can only be about nicotine.
  2. The times they are given to smoke do not necessarily line up with any desire to smoke, but soon they simply create the new habit of smoking by the clock. This means that they are topping up their blood levels of nicotine without any great desire.
  3. Conversely, by being time restricted, artificial smoking expectations are created. E.g. they smoke before riding the elevator up to their office in the morning at 8am.

Now they can’t smoke until morning tea at 10am. If the belief is that they need to smoke every 90 minutes then that last 30 minutes will be tough. Or they are just fine, in spite of the belief they need to smoke every 90 minutes.

Come the weekend they will smoke many more, because they can, but rarely stop to think about how many of these cigarettes they actually need.

Ok, so why is this so important, and what makes you a different hypnosis client than a plumber, just because you use a computer.

The reason is because smoking and quitting smoking are about dealing with and letting go of all your habits and connections to cigarettes. It’s about being honest and very clear about your smoking habit.

This way your hypnotist can address your particular situation. There is no, one size fits all, from a hypnotic therapy perspective. Sure there are some common things to address, but in order for you to succeed the session needs to be exactly about you and your habit.

The best news is that hypnosis is very successful when you want to quit.
